NSW Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC)
The PRC aims to encourage in students a love of reading for enjoyment, enrichment and to enable students to experience quality literature. The Challenge is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9.
NSW DEC 2021
All students are encouraged to register for the PRC for 2021.
The 2021 PRC will open on Monday 1st March 2021. It closes on the Friday 3rd September for students. Students have 25 weeks to complete the challenge and must read 30 books, 25 from the set list and 5 personal choice books. Students can access the PRC reading lists through Oliver Library and the PRC webpage.
All students in years K-6 need to log onto the PRC through the website and complete their reading list before midnight on Friday 3rd September 2021.
NB: Changes due to Learning from home 2021, students can add 10 personal choice books
How to register.
Students need to log onto the new PRC home page and click on either Discover or Search to add book titles to their reading list.
Students will update their reading list weekly either at home, school or the library. Students can also download a PRC reading log sheet so they can record their books weekly.
Whole School Participation.
Students who don't borrow are encouraged to read during school hours. Students can read a picture book during class borrowing time K-2, and students in years 3-6 can read a lexile book in their classroom. The library is also open during mornings and lunchtime Monday-Thursday.
Kindergarten will cover 15 books in the library and classroom. They will be borrowing a PRC picture book to take home each week. Students on Stage 1 are borrowing 1 PRC book and another of their own choice. Students in years 3-6 borrow weekly for personal choice for home.
Selecting PRC books from Oliver Library.
Students can access Oliver library through their student portal.
Students can search in Orbit for a book, series or author of their choice. PRC books will have 2 PRC logo worms, hover over the worms to see the reading list level.
By clicking on the search magnifying glass (top right corner), students can access the reading lists from Oliver and view the books. Scroll down to Reading Lists, the box in the far left column, and click on reading lists. Find PRC 2021 and click on the + button, select the appropriate list, k-2, 3-4 or 5-6.
Students can reserve books if they are logged in so it is available on their library day. Students can also look at their loan history in Orbit if they forget to record the book.
